Pioneer Prison Ministry

Just a short report on the Ngawha Prison Ministry. We have been teaching the "Majoring in Men curriculum in the prison since June 5 2006.

To my knowledge this has not been done in our nation before and we feel very honoured to pioneer this work.

At present Peter Brown and myself are the Ngawha team and we are believing God to add others as the ministry grows. I believe there is an open heaven in this nation to take the message that manhood and Christlikness are synonymous. The men we are ministering to each week, are what society would call outcasts. Yet, we know God never gives up on us, and we can certainly not give up on them. We have built lots of relationships, with all sorts of different men, mainly gang members. We have found them to be very honouring toward us. As you can imagine, the topics we cover concerning the issues of fatherhood, forgiveness, and treating our wives right, have a mixed reaction among the men. Yet, when we explain it from a biblical perspective, they receive it really well. Over the past year, we have seen the Word of God touch these men's hearts, and hope has been restored to their lives. Personally it is the most fulfilling work I've been involved in.The legacy Dr. Cole has left us, is well received and life changing. I believe God is doing a real work in the community with this curriculum. We need to be encouraged, and bold, and take Max Man to the lost men of NZ. What an exciting time to be in God!

I'll keep in touch in regards to this prison ministry.

God bless,

Mike Parks

3 Major Men's Ministries Pray Together.

A Call for Men to Pray
Originally initiated by FGBI, Promise Keepers and CMN are joining up and calling THE MEN OF NZ to pray for our nation.

All 3 ministries are “national” and “non denominational”. We are on the same team, we are “Christian” and we are called by His Name. God is promising that if we will humble ourselves and turn from our sin, then HE WILL HEAR and HEAL. Let’s get on board with this, put time aside each 1st Monday of every month to fast and pray.

Check the open letter under "Events" for details.

FATHERLESSNESS

Here are some statistics from the States, which unfortunately apply equally to our nation. NZ is not only suffering from Fatherlessness in our families, but also as a nation we are Fatherless.

An astounding 61% of the households in America today are fatherless! In case you have any doubts as to how damaging it is to have a nation full of “absentee fathers”, the following statistics should help put things in perspective.

  • 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes. (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S. Bureau of the Census)
  • 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes. (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S. Bureau of the Census)
  • 85% of all children that exhibit behavioural disorders come from fatherless homes. (Source: Centre for Disease Control)
  • 80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes.(Source: Criminal Justice & Behaviour, Vol. 14, pg 403-26, 1978)
  • 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes. (Source: National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools)
  • 75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centres come from fatherless homes. (Source: Rainbows For All God’s Children)
  • 70% of juveniles in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes.(Source: U.S. Dept. of Justice, Special Report, Sept. 1998)
  • 85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home. (Source: Fulton Co. Georgia jail populations, Texas Dept. of Corrections, 1992)
Sobering Statistics aren’t they – but God has a plan. It is you and it is me. It is up to us as men of God to teach, to teach until every man is taught “that manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous”; “that being a male is a matter of birth, being a man is a matter of choice”. To bring men into a knowledge of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and to go and make disciples.

Programmes won’t do it and politics won’t do it. The thing that sets men free is truth. As a fellow lover of the truth I urge you to help us turn our country around by restoring fathers to the home, and a fathering "spirit" to our nation.
